Like Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach before her, Mallory Pugh - Washington Spirit forward and U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) member - makes her Gatorade debut in a spot for the brand’s flagship Gatorade Thirst Quencher. Pugh is expected to take the US women’s soccer team deep in the 2019 tournament.
“Through the years, we’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the best soccer players in the world: Mia Hamm, Lionel Messi, Abby Wambach, Christian Pulisic and now Mallory Pugh,” said Jeff Kearney, Global Head of Gatorade Sports Marketing. “In addition to embodying our brand essence, the thread that ties them together is their ability to reinvent how the game is played.”
By adding Pugh, Gatorade continues its rich tradition of fueling the star athlete, on one of the world’s most elite teams. Pugh’s ad for the most thoroughly researched hydration and sports fuel in the world, launches June 18.
“We pride ourselves on identifying up-and-coming athletes, male and female, who are championship caliber, have exemplary character, and who believe in fueling for performance. Mallory fits that mold: she’s fierce on the field, is a great person from a great family, and is interested in how sports nutrition plays a role in her game. We’re excited to work closely with her as she continues to pursue all of her soccer goals,” said Kearney.
“I grew up drinking Gatorade, so it’s an honor to be joining the brand roster alongside game-changing athletes like Mia Hamm, Serena Williams and Abby Wambach,” said Mallory Pugh. Sports fuel is really important for my game, so to have access to the brand that knows sports fuel better than anyone, is very exciting.
Gatorade’s proven, scientific formula has not changed for 50 years and continues to quench thirst, replace fluids and electrolytes, and provide carbohydrate energy to help athletes get the most out of their performance. Gatorade Thirst Quencher has a 6% carbohydrate level to fuel working muscles, provide for great taste and to ensure rapid fluid absorption for athletes engaged in intense/longer exercise.
