Gatorade Beat the Heat: Lacy the Lumberjack
As part of the Gatorade Beat the Heat program, Packers running back Eddie Lacy received an introduction to lumberjack sports from competitive lumberjacks Shana Verstegen and Cassidy Scheer at the Paul Bunyan Northwood's Lumberjack Show in Wisconsin Dells, Wisc. Lacy tried his hand at pole climbing, the two-man cross cut saw and (his favorite) axe throwing.
In its 11th year, the Gatorade Beat the Heat program is an educational program that teaches youth athletes the importance of heat safety and staying hydrated during the hot summer months. Not only was Lacy equipped with a new skill set, but he also learned that lumberjack athletes compete in similar conditions and lose a lot of sweat while training and competing.
